Trying to use computer to watch video's (mayes and robbies) I have new computer, but not that big. Running XP home addition. 256mb memory(upgrading to 512 next week) problem. anywhere from 20-50 min into video, it freeze the computer. I have made sure off line and tried again same results. On all videos. Not the video I am sure but maybe need to do something to computer. Don"t have a dvd player setup yet, so doing it on computer. did download quicktime. run on real player and the hp program same results tia |

I'd blow some air into the dvd drive or run one of those cd/dvd drive cleaners and see if that helps. 256M isn't really enough ram for XP, but I don't see how that would make videos stop in the middle. |

Stan, check your power settings, maybe your computer is set to fall asleep after one hour. If you were to touch the mouse or a key, it would keep it awake. Just a thought -- |

Stan, I have had problems with John Mayes DVD's. It has happened both on my computer as well as my TV DVD player. It will just stop after playing for awhile. It then tries to start but then stops again. I did email John a few months ago about it and he offered to replace but I haven't had time to check on them again. |

It very well could be low memory. As Jon said 256 is barley enough to run XP, let alone a memory intense task like playing a video. All it would take is one more process starting up to lock things up(like the one Lance described). Open the task manager (Ctrl-Alt-Del), go to the performance tab and monitor how much memory is being used. Also restart the computer before playing to free up some memory. Memory is cheap enough that I would go even more than 512. If that isn't the problem, it might also be an issue with you video card. |

I bet you'll see a substantial improvement if you bump RAM to 1gb or above. |

It could be your video settings I had this problem on a program with lots of video and flash..Go to your control panel then to display then click on the settings tab then the advanced button and then preformance tab move the slider down and see what happens it may clear up this problem if not drop me a line and Ill see what else we can come up with..
